Achievement Award

The Achievement Award is an annual award presented to a woman from the Emory community who exemplifies, through her life's work, the principles that guide the EUWC.

2026 Recipient of Emory University Woman's Club Achievement Award: Judy Michna

Congratulations to Judy Michna, recipient of the EUWC Achievement Award for 2024-2025.

Judy has served EUWC in many capacities over the past 18 years including: President, co-president (several times), Vice-President for yearbook, VP for membership, VP for newsletter, recording secretary, long range planning chair, 100-year anniversary history display planner for Spring Luncheon, member of the finance committee, and most recently head of the Archives Committee from 2023 to present.

When Judy agreed to head the Archives Committee, she knew it would be a monumental task. Just one look in the attic of the Houston Mill House would be confirmation. The project started in 2023 with the thought of cleaning out the attic and organizing the mountains of material that had been stored for years. After the steam radiator failed in the attic it meant rescuing truckloads of documents and memorabilia that constituted years of EUWC history.

Judy opened her home as the resting place for all those boxes of materials, then spent months sorting, organizing, and cataloging the history of EUWC. Her home was also open to all other members of the Archives Committee (and anyone else) that Judy enlisted to help with this project. Judy’s passion for discovery and learning, plus her positive energy has kept the project fun for the committee. At the end of the project, there were meetings and many phone calls with the Emory University Archivist to coordinate the transition to storage.

Judy is truly passionate about EUWC, its accomplishments, and preserving its history. Judy’s enthusiasm enlisted the aid of others, and her months of work ensured that precious documents made the transition from the moldy Houston Mill House attic to Emory University Archives. Judy would say this was a labor of love, but what important work to preserve this history of the oldest, continuously operating organization at Emory University. For these reasons and many others, Judy Michna is the worthy recipient of the Outstanding Member Achievement Award.

2023 Recipient of Emory University Woman's Club Achievement Award: Teri Hopkin

Teri has been responsible for many Club functions, including Share the Care Chair, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, and most recently, Program Chair. We have all benefitted from her outstanding selection of speakers and noteworthy topics for our monthly meetings. The appeal of these programs has helped to attract new members and invigorate existing members. As corresponding Secretary, Teri has consoled and cheered many of us as we have faced challenges. Her loving and sensitive notes and cards are a testament to her graciousness and empathy. Since the first day she joined us, she has been a shining light for EUWC. She draws you in with her sparkling eyes and her warm smile. She captivates our spirits with her wit and reassures us with her easy-going manner. She has truly made a difference to so many of us in so many ways.
